01. Introduction
Welcome to Fred. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Fred, a family coordination assistant that operates inside your messenger app, and any related services (collectively, the “Service”), provided by:
Product Impact Consulting BV
Registered in the Netherlands (KVK: 90557840)
Registered address: Terschellingstraat 33, 1025 RA Amsterdam, Netherlands
Email: mail@fred.family
02. Eligibility and Accounts
Who can use Fred
Fred is a service for adults aged 18 or older. You must be the legal parent or guardian of any child whose information you share with Fred. By using Fred, you confirm that you meet these requirements.
Both parents must agree
Because Fred operates as a shared tool for two parents, both parents in a household must accept these Terms before using the Service. By adding Fred to your WhatsApp group and delegating calendar access, both parents confirm that they have read and agreed to these Terms.
The parent who sets up Fred agrees to these Terms during the sign up process. The second parent will receive an email from Fred and accepts the Terms by accepting the invitation to join the WhatsApp group.
Account security
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Notify us immediately at mail@fred.family if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
Connected accounts
Fred connects to your calendar and receives forwarded emails to do its job. The following applies:
- Calendar: By sharing your calendar with your Fred address (e.g. jansen@fred.family), you grant Fred read access via calendar sharing; Fred schedules by creating events in its own calendar and inviting you.
- Forwarded emails: Fred processes only the emails you actively forward to your Fred address. Fred does not access your inbox directly.
- WhatsApp: Fred processes only messages sent to Fred within your shared household group. Fred cannot access your broader WhatsApp conversation history.
03. Your Household Account
One household, two equal parents
Fred works at the household level. Both parents have equal rights over the household account. Either parent may close the household account at any time. On closure, all household data — including all children’s data — is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
If your household changes
If your circumstances change — for example, separation or divorce — either parent may withdraw from the Service at any time by contacting mail@fred.familyor closing the household account. If either parent withdraws consent for the processing of a child’s data, we will stop processing that child’s data.
Fred is a coordination tool, not a mediator. We do not arbitrate disputes between household members, and we cannot restrict one parent’s access to the household account at the other parent’s request, other than by closing the household account.
04. Beta Access, Fees, and Payment
Fred is currently free
Fred is in beta. Access is currently offered free of charge to a closed group of invited households. No payment details are required to join the beta.
We may introduce fees in the future
Fred is a commercial service in development. We reserve the right to introduce a subscription fee at any point after the beta period. If and when we do, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before any charges begin. That notification will state the price, the date billing would start, and how to cancel if you choose not to continue. When we send that notice, you have 30 days to cancel your account for free. You will not be charged before those 30 days have passed.
Beta means beta
During the beta period, features may change, break, or be removed without notice. Despite our best efforts, data loss can occur during the beta. Participation in the beta does not guarantee continued access to the Service once the beta ends.
05. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Fred to:
- Share information about a child for whom you are not the legal parent or guardian.
- Engage in any activity that is illegal under Dutch, German, or applicable EU law.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract Fred’s underlying AI models or source code.
- Send excessive or automated requests that place unreasonable load on the Service.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
- Circumvent any security or payment systems.
- Resell or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
06. Children’s Data
Fred is not directed at children. Children do not use or access Fred. Fred processes data about children — such as names, birthdays, schools, and activities — only if parents share it in the course of using the Service.
By sharing information about your children, you confirm that you are their legal parent or guardian and that you have the authority to share that information.
Children’s data in Fred is subject to the following commitments, without exception:
- Used only to deliver coordination features within your household.
- Never shared with third parties for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes.
- Never used to train AI models.
- Deleted in full when your household account is closed.
07. AI and How We Process Your Data
How Fred uses AI
Fred uses large language models to parse forwarded emails, generate weekly briefs, and produce coordination messages. This requires sending data to third-party AI providers. The data we send to AI providers is limited to what is needed to generate a specific response.
Our AI provider
Fred’s replies are generated by Anthropic’s Claude models. We run these models through Amazon Web Services (AWS Bedrock) on servers located in the European Union — your data is processed inside AWS’s EU infrastructure and is never sent to Anthropic.
Full data rights
What data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and your full rights under GDPR are set out in our Privacy Policy at fred.family/privacy. Questions? Email mail@fred.family.
08. Intellectual Property
Fred’s IP
Product Impact Consulting BV owns all rights in the Fred Service, including its software, AI models, brand, and content. You are not allowed to use the Fred name, logo, or trademarks without written permission.
Your content
You retain ownership of everything you provide to Fred: forwarded emails, calendar entries, messages, and manually added information. By using Fred, you grant us a limited licence to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service. This licence ends when you delete your content or close your account.
Feedback
If you send us suggestions, ideas, or feedback about Fred, we may use them freely to improve the Service, without any obligation, attribution, or compensation to you. (Thank you — it genuinely helps.)
09. Termination
By you
You can stop using Fred at any time by deleting your account. Your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
By us
We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you breach these Terms. We may also terminate the Service with reasonable notice for any other reason.
Service changes
We may modify or discontinue features at any time. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give you advance notice and issue a pro-rata refund of any prepaid fees.
10. Service Availability
We do our best to keep Fred available around the clock. In practice, the Service depends on infrastructure and platforms outside our direct control — including WhatsApp, Google Calendar, and our cloud and AI providers. If any of these are unavailable, Fred may not be able to deliver some or all of its features.
We do not guarantee any specific level of uptime and are not liable for losses arising from third-party platform downtime.
Third-party platforms
Fred operates inside platforms we do not control, including WhatsApp and Google Calendar. Your use of those platforms remains subject to their own terms of service, and you agree to comply with them. Fred is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta Platforms or Google.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all express or implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose.
Fred uses AI to parse and summarise information. AI-generated output can contain errors — including incorrect dates, missed items, or misread instructions. You are responsible for verifying all output from Fred. Fred is a coordination aid, not a substitute for your own judgement.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Product Impact Consulting BV, its directors, employees, and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service — including missed events, incorrect calendar entries, or losses arising from reliance on AI-generated summaries.
Our total aggregate liability for direct damages arising from or related to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us for the Service in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or €0,- if you have paid nothing.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or injury to life, body, or health, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable mandatory law. Nothing in these Terms affects your mandatory statutory rights as a consumer in your country of residence.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Before filing any formal legal claim, please contact us at mail@fred.family— we’d like the chance to resolve it first.
If the matter cannot be resolved informally, disputes will be referred to the competent courts of the Netherlands. If you are a consumer residing in the EU, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and you retain the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country.
14. General Provisions
Entire agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Product Impact Consulting BV concerning the Service.
Assignment: We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate restructuring, or sale of the Service. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent.
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
Changes: We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be notified by email at least 30 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
Language: These Terms are provided in English. In the event of any conflict with a translated version, the English version prevails.
